Design Optimization: Prevent Breakage in Narrow Board Areas

Last updated on Apr 8, 2026

PCB designs with narrow, unsupported board areas are prone to breakage and deformation during production. As a rule of thumb, there should be no areas on a PCB narrower than 2 mm after milling, in order for the board to have sufficient mechanical strength. This value should be increased for very large boards, where more mechanical support is required.
